Consumer Shipping

The consumer shipping industry - or the "logistics" or "express delivery" industry, as it's sometimes called - has a considerable climate impact which only grows during the busy holiday season. December is the shipping industry's busiest month, when it handles billions of packages; UPS estimates shipping 22 million packages on December 19 alone. With so many packages traveling by ground and air all over the world every day, the global warming pollution created runs into the millions of tons. Climate Counts ranked the four leading shippers; DHL (and its parent Deutsche Post World Net), the US Postal Service, UPS and FedEx. The results show an industry that has begun to address its climate impact, but has far to go.
