Why Mobile?
Go Green Mobile is an initiative designed to raise awareness among young people that they are in control of their choices, and that they can make a difference. It’s about being empowered to make choices that leave a smaller carbon footprint. And it's about being able to monitor, measure and manage those choices -- right on their mobile phones.
Go Green Mobile – Carbon Tracker:
A joint initiative with AT&T, Nokia and UCLA to empower young people with actionable data to help them track their carbon footprints so they can better understand how changing commuting patterns can help reduce their environmental impact. Using a mobile application on a GPS enabled mobile phone, and high-speed wireless data network young people can track the carbon impact of their daily transportation choices. Based on time-location traces, the system can infer your activities (walking, biking, public transportation, and driving), and log them throughout the day. Like an instant daily personal carbon impact reminder, the Personal Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) allows you to monitor, and visualize the carbon impact of your transportation choices and behaviors. The application also has a Facebook component that when added to your Facebook profile, it allows you to compare and contrast your impact with friends.
Go Green Mobile - On-The-Go:
Go Green and Climate Counts (www.climatecounts.org) together will provide a mobile application to empower young people to make more “green-aware” purchases at point of purchase. On any mobile phone, young people will have access to thousands of environmental scorecards and ratings of recognizable consumer brands -- in industries such as clothing, consumer electronics, fast food and many others -- right on their mobile phones. Using simple text messaging, young people can instantly receive the ratings about the companies and brands that they purchase from.
Raise Your Voice Mobile! - Text Petitions:
Now you can encourage companies to reduce their environmental impact -- and motivate them to produce more sustainable products, services, and technologies. Your cell phone is all you need to send a message to the world's largest companies that climate change matters to YOU. Sign the Go Green petition to tell the fast food industry to get serious about global climate change.Click here to learn more!
